OTIF — On-Time In-Full
Definition
Customer-facing delivery metric: fraction of customer orders delivered both on time (within agreed delivery window) AND in full (the requested quantity, no shortage, no partial). A delivery that is on time but short = FAIL. Late but complete = FAIL. Both gates must pass.
Automotive variant: OTD (On-Time Delivery, time only) + separate fill-rate metric. Renault/Stellantis-style scorecards weight OTD + PPM (quality) + responsiveness.
Formula
OTIF = Orders delivered (On-Time AND In-Full) / Total orders shipped
Per customer, per window (typically monthly for scorecard).
Required data
- Customer required delivery date (RDD) per order line
- Actual delivery date per order line
- Quantity requested vs quantity delivered per order line
- A clear definition of “on time” — exact date? Within tolerance window? Inside JIT slot?
Possible data sources
- EDI shipment confirmations
- ERP delivery records
- Carrier proof-of-delivery
- Customer scorecard feedback (lagged but authoritative)
Factory example
Auto Tier-2, month:
- 220 order lines shipped
- 12 lines late (≥1 hour past JIT slot in AFZ Kenitra context)
- 5 lines short (quantity below requested)
- 2 lines both late and short
OTIF = (220 − 12 − 5 + 2) / 220 = 205 / 220 = 93.2%

Economic impact

Common mistakes
- Counting partial as success (“we shipped something”) → metric becomes meaningless
- Defining “on time” loosely (calendar day instead of JIT slot) → scorecard mismatch
- Reporting plant-wide OTIF instead of per-customer → biggest customer’s pain hidden in average
- Not reconciling internal OTIF vs customer-reported scorecard → trust gap
- Ignoring upstream supplier OTIF as a leading indicator
